How To Eliminate & Prevent Razor Bumps

Mostly men, who shave on a regular basis, suffer from razor bumps- hair that get stuck in the pores and start growing into the skin. These ingrown hairs appear as red patches that scar the whole smart look. Razor bumps are generally caused by inappropriate shaving techniques and low-quality products. They cause skin irritation, itching and in worst case scenarios, major infections. Given below is the list of few simple hacks following which one can prevent razor bumps and enjoy a fresh and smooth skin after shaving:

Wash your Face with Hot water -

Washing your face with hot water while scrubbing would cleanse your pores. Make this a part of your daily routine in order to prevent razor bumps. Using soap with warm water would soften the hair and remove any grime or bacteria clogging your pores.

Use Pre-shave Oil -

Applying some pre-shave oil would add an extra protective layer while moisturizing the skin. It eradicates the possibility of ingrown hair that leads to the formation of bumps. One can find these pre-shave oils at health food stores and on various e-shopping platforms.

Choose the Right Shaving Cream -

Always form a thick layer of lather while shaving. Choosing the right shaving cream is also crucial which normally depends on personal taste. Choose a cream which includes glycerin, aqua, stearic acid, potassium hydroxides and coconut acid. It is better to avoid creams containing benzocaine and menthol, as these act as pore-clogging agents.

Use a Clean and Sharp Blade -

A dirty blade is more harmful for your skin than a sharp one. If you shave regularly, replace your blade at fixed intervals. Keep them clean and wash-off any stuck hairs otherwise it might lead to razor bumps. A clean blade lasts longer and enables a smooth shave.

Directions -

Always shave in the direction of your hair growth. Stroking up or against the grain might give you a closer shave. But this would allow the hair to grow in different direction leading to ingrown hair and razor bumps. Apply less pressure while using a razor otherwise it may cause skin irritation.

Eliminate Razor Bumps -

  1. Moisturize your skin and apply some healing after-shave balm. Do not use any alcohol –based aftershaves.
  2. Using witch hazel also acts as a cure for razor bumps. It is affordable and contains healing properties.
  3. It is better not shave for a few days if you are suffering from razor bumps. Give some time to your skin to get healed as this will automatically eliminate razor bumps. You can also use some razor bump removing tools and treatments for better and faster results.
